Tours of the Uelzen Lock Group

The lock group Uelzen, consisting of locks I and II, is located between the towns of Uelzen and Wittingen, near the village of Esterholz. Both locks, alongside the Lüneburg ship lift at Scharnebeck, are two more impressive descent structures of the Elbe Side Canal (ESK). Lock Uelzen I has been one of the largest inland navigation locks in Germany since 1973, due to its lift height of 23 meters. The construction of Lock Uelzen II, completed in 2006, has significantly increased the capacity of the Elbe Side Canal. The two independently operating locks ensure the operational safety of the lock group in the long term.
