Around a dozen Auto Union Silver Arrows with V16 and V12 engines were sent to the Soviet Union as reparations after the war. Following those ultimate Grand Prix racing cars, two V12 monopostos were created in Chemnitz/Karl-Marx-Stadt around 1950, which were also transported to Moscow. All these largely forgotten cars were considered lost for many years. One of the 1950s racing cars ended up decades later in Donington, UK, for hard currency, where it was presented as the supposed Auto Union Type E. It is now part of the collection at PS.SPEICHER in Einbeck. In total, five of its largely restored Type C and Type D predecessors, as well as various replicas, now enrich European museums. Eberhard Kittler, a prolific author and former head of the Volkswagen AutoMuseum, knows the background of this remarkable story and some of the key figures involved – including Carl Hahn, the then Volkswagen CEO, who played a significant role in the secret relocation of the legendary Riga car to Ingolstadt. Admission to the lecture is ten euros, with free access for FörderFreunde. Spontaneous guests are, of course, welcome, but unfortunately, a seat guarantee cannot be provided.
