Lecture: Women in War: Roles, Fates, Afterstories

In the Salzgitter area, thousands of women were imprisoned during the Nazi era in forced labor camps, concentration camps, or in labor education camps. Many of them were employed in munitions factories; others worked as administrative staff or supervisors in the camps. Elsewhere, mothers were left alone, and daughters could never see their families again. Who were these women? How different was their experience in the camps? What did the war mean for them? How could they reinvent themselves after the war? Using various materials from the association's archive, these and other questions, as well as fates and afterstories, will be explored in a lecture for the Day of Archives.
