Lecture: The Castle of Horst - a Preliminary Excavation Report

Excavations in Horst, on the Seeve, were first conducted in 1992. To address inadequate documentation and unresolved questions, the Archaeological Museum Hamburg reopened the excavation site in 2024. For over two months, thorough archaeological investigations were carried out. A ring wall-like fortification from the 12th century emerged, which, despite its relatively small size, is comparable to structures of Saxon castles. What was found during these excavations and what conclusions can be drawn from it will be discussed in this lecture. Admission costs €5 for adults. Members of the local history and museum association and children up to 18 years of age are free.
