Lecture concert and reading with Prof. Dr. Axel Walter (lecture), Lidwina Wurth (reading and singing), and Ulf Dressler (oud) What connects the Homer translator with the title character of an opera and one of the most famous figures from the tale "One Thousand and One Nights"? Johann Heinrich Voß created the first translation of Antoine Galland's work "Les mille et une nuit" between 1781 and 1785. It was the only work of narrative prose that Voß ever published. Abu Hassan and Ali Baba are title characters of some stories from this work. Whether Carl Maria von Weber became acquainted with the stories during a visit to Voß is unfortunately unknown, but it cannot be ruled out that he was familiar with Voß's edition. Experience an evening with two wonderful oriental tales read by Lidwina Wurth (also singing), framed by songs and instrumental music for the Arabic lute oud played by Ulf Dressler, and with an introduction to Voß's translation by Prof. Dr. Axel E. Walter. An event by the city of Otterndorf, the Kranichhaus Society, and the Johann Heinrich Voß Society.
