Research projects with the VWFS ATAIR – the environmental monitoring of the BSH in the German Bight

In 2021, the surveying, wreck-searching, and research vessel (VWFS) ATAIR was commissioned for the work of the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH). This added a state-of-the-art ship to the BSH fleet. With this ship, as well as several others, the BSH conducts its environmental monitoring of German waters – the German Bight and the southwestern Baltic Sea. Additionally, the entire North Sea is surveyed once every summer. Dr. Katrin Latarius's presentation provides insights into the specifics of the North Sea and the German Bight, describes the concept of environmental monitoring, and presents the measurement results. There will surely be a bit of sailor's yarn as well... Dr. Katrin Latarius is an oceanographer and has been a scientific staff member at the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency in Hamburg since 2018 in the "Marine Climate Issues" department.
