Wilhelmshaven's southern coast is the hotspot for observing harbor porpoises along the Lower Saxony North Sea coast. In spring, when the small whales come into the Jade Bay, a unique natural spectacle unfolds. Anyone who has ever been able to observe these marine mammals in their natural habitat will never forget this fascinating encounter. To make this experience accessible to as many people as possible, the annual Wilhelmshaven Harbor Porpoise Days were established in 2017. From April 24 to May 3, 2026, visitors can expect a diverse program featuring nature experience events and activities centered around Germany's only native whale species.
