Pumping Station Tour Greetsiel

Pumping stations primarily protect against flooding from both inside and outside. This tour focuses on the drainage of the inland areas and coastal protection in the municipality of Krummhörn. Learn interesting facts about the tasks and work of the "First Drainage Association Emden" and the "Deichacht Krummhörn." The meeting point for this 1.5-hour tour is the forecourt at the fur trade "Lüttje Schaap," Schulweg 1 in Greetsiel. At the beginning, there will be explanations about the pumping station from the outside, the new sluice gates, and the flood levels. After a view from the dike over the Greetsiel yacht harbor, the tour continues inside the pumping station: the pumps will be explained, and the history from the first sluice gate to the pumping station at Knock in Emden, as well as dike construction and dike safety, will be discussed. Note: Participation in the tour is only possible with a valid ticket.
