Eternal Child?! - Or: Adult? Lecture by Dr. Diana Pflichthofer

"I never wanted to grow up..." says the turtle Nessaja to Tabaluga, as Peter Maffay has it. And famously, Oskar Matzerath in Günter Grass's "The Tin Drum" stopped growing at the age of three by throwing himself down the cellar stairs. The currently ubiquitous metaphor of the "inner child" is, in my view, often misunderstood and tends to leave people in a state of chronic neediness and entitlement, rather than helping them in their (out)development. Do we still want to be adults today? What do we actually understand by "adult"? Is there anything attractive about it? What evokes fear, and how does it manifest? How does one become an adult?
