"Golden Romance," the young Steinway Artist Albert Lau will perform together with the violinist Philippa Mo from London on February 8, 2026, at the arche Chamber Music concert. Albert Lau (MMus, LRAM, LRSM) was born in Hong Kong and performs internationally as a solo pianist as well as a chamber musician. He was appointed a Steinway Artist in 2022 by Steinway & Sons. Albert Lau began his classical piano training at the age of 7 under Josephine Cheung. Philippa Mo studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Philippa Mo extensively concerts as a chamber musician. Visitors will experience a romantic concert featuring works from a circle of friends: Johannes Brahms and Joseph Joachim were friends, along with Robert and Clara Schumann. The young Brahms, with his long blonde hair and forget-me-not eyes, was the favorite of all. Together, the circle of friends dedicated the Scherzo "FAE" to their friend Joseph Joachim: F REI, A BER E INSAM was his motto around 1853. The program includes Johannes Brahms' Scherzo in C minor "F.A.E.," Clara Schumann's Three Romances, op. 22, Johannes Brahms' Violin Sonata No. 3 in D minor, and Joseph Joachim's Romance in C major. After the intermission, the romantic Violin Sonata in A major by César Franck will follow.
For Albert Lau, it is particularly important to creatively design his concert programs. In February 2020, he was introduced to a wide audience in an interview by WDR. He has been living in Cologne since late 2016. In 2024, Albert Lau and the renowned English violinist Philippa Mo embarked on their first Germany tour "Devastation, Romance and Hope," performing at the Riverside Studios in Cologne, the concert hall in Marienmünster, the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, and the Glocke in Bremen. In the summer of 2023, Albert Lau and Philippa Mo already performed concerts at the historic Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond and on the Isle of Man. They have more concerts planned for England as well as Cologne, Bonn, Mariengarden, Berlin, and Hamburg, and now in Bad Pyrmont. The arche will clear the council chamber itself and set it up for the concert. Secure your tickets here!
