Wealth proves to be a central means of power for the high nobility. In November 1918, the revolution abolished the monarchy, and the emperor and the princes had to abdicate. However, the deposed ruling families did not break apart over this. Gerrit Hollatz sheds light on the history of the Welfs and their wealth over three generations. From the years of the Weimar Republic through the Nazi era to the early Federal Republic, he analyzes how the family lived with and from their considerable wealth, how they managed, utilized, and bequeathed it.
