Arthur Illies was a northern German painter and graphic artist who stylistically stood between Impressionism, Art Nouveau, and a moderate modernism. His early work, in particular, consists of impressionistic and nature-inspired paintings. Characteristic are his atmospheric light effects and the calm color palette of his images. In addition to landscapes and city views, he created numerous graphic works, including woodcuts and etchings, which demonstrate his connection to book art. Hans-Christian Schimmelpfennig, chairman of the Arthur and Georgie Illies Family Foundation, explains the life and work of the artist through his motifs from Hamburg, Lüneburg, and the Harburg district. The lecture takes place in conjunction with the museum's special exhibition "With Brush, Stone, and Pencil - Artists in the Winsen Area." The exhibition, which also features three works by Arthur Illies, can be visited before the event and is on display until March 8. Admission (including the exhibition) costs €5 for adults. Members of the local heritage and museum association and children up to 18 years old have free entry.
