With Metropolitan Baroque, the Museum of Non-Objective Art presents the first German museum exhibition of the internationally renowned Hungarian artist Márton Nemes. Since his highly acclaimed appearance at the Hungarian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale 2024, Nemes has been regarded as one of the most significant voices in a new abstract art.

His works combine painting, sculpture, and installation into vibrant, rhythmic image and spatial compositions that draw influences from club culture, urban architecture, and digital imagery. Since 2020, Nemes has been developing an increasingly immersive, energetic form of abstraction: color fields, reflective materials, and expansive constructions create a pulsating visual experience.

Located in the historic old town of Otterndorf, the Museum of Non-Objective Art invites visitors to experience contemporary abstract art up close. As the only museum in Northern Germany with a clear focus on non-objective art, the institution showcases changing exhibitions of national and international artists. Here, color, form, space, and perception take center stage. The works offer new perspectives and make it tangible how diverse and vibrant abstract art is today – surprising, sensual, and ever-renewing.

The museum has a unique history: it evolved from the private commitment of Otterndorf doctor Dr. Herbert Augat, who founded the "Studio A" in his home in 1961, into a public museum. Since 1974, it has been supported by the district and has been located at its current address at Marktstraße 10 since 2007. Admission is free. A visit is worthwhile – whether for a conscious enjoyment of art, a quick stop, or an inspiring discovery.
