The eastern end of the island is an ideal breeding ground for the critically endangered little tern and the sandpiper. Coastal protection measures and tourist activities have led to a drastic decline in their breeding habitats. To avoid disturbing nesting, resting, and foraging birds, the area is fenced off annually on Wangerooge. However, the beach-nesting birds are often not easy to spot. Join us on an excursion to discover the unique specialists of the Wadden Sea.

Special notes: Pre-registration is required at the National Park House (Email: nationalparkhaus@wangerooge.de; Phone: 04469 8397).

Equipment: Please bring wind- and weatherproof clothing. The excursion may be canceled at short notice in case of heavy rain or wind. If available, please bring binoculars/telescope. Binoculars can be borrowed. The route is approximately 6 km long and partly runs along the beach and over unpaved paths, which can be uneven. Children aged 10 and older and adults with no prior knowledge are welcome. A maximum of 16 participants can join.
