Shanty Choir Bruchmühlen

With passion, the Bruchmühlen Shanty Choir sings and plays the legendary songs that tell of life at sea, longing and homesickness, and experiences in ports and distant lands. For years, these sea bears on land have delighted audiences with a sing-along and swaying atmosphere. Shanties allow for a lot of emotion, says chairman Wolfgang Langhorst. They are songs of wanderlust, sailor romance, and lost love, and they are so enjoyable to sing along to. It is a simple song, folk-like and melodic. The original work songs of sailors were sung without musical accompaniment, as every hand was needed for the heavy physical labor. In their free time, the forebitter or bollard songs were accompanied by a guitar, fiddle, or harmonica. Both types of songs were collectively referred to as shanties. The members of the Bruchmühlen Shanty Choir e.V. are happy to dedicate their free time to the preservation of this maritime cultural heritage. Sun, wind, and clouds can be found in every garden, while the 'Blue Boys' provide the maritime atmosphere. Their repertoire offers the best of shanties and sea songs, making every event a highlight.
