Permanent Exhibition "Peter Behrens – Art and Technology"

Peter Behrens, a pioneer of modern design and industrial architecture, significantly shaped the aesthetics of the early 20th century with his versatile work. His creations included furniture, ceramics, porcelain, cutlery, clothing, textiles, as well as graphic design and posters. As the artistic advisor to AEG, he developed their corporate design and influenced the careers of later Bauhaus artists such as Walter Gropius, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Le Corbusier. The permanent exhibition "Peter Behrens – Art and Technology" at the LVR Industrial Museum Peter Behrens Building in Oberhausen showcases architectural models made from original designs, as well as current and historical photographs of his buildings. The range spans from his early residential house on Mathildenhöhe in Darmstadt to later works such as the tobacco factory in Linz. The exhibition is complemented by exhibits from the collection of the LVR Industrial Museum, including household items from the Art Nouveau period and technical devices from companies like AEG and Villeroy & Boch. The focus is on Behrens' work as an architect and industrial designer.
