We Transform - The New European Bauhaus and Beyond

The Bundeskunsthalle is dedicating the year 2025 to ecological transformation and is presenting "WEtransFORM – Towards the Future of Building," an international exhibition on sustainable architecture and urban development in Europe. This exhibition invites an intensive engagement with the future of our built environment and presents key design principles for a climate-appropriate renewal of building culture. These include strengthening climate resilience, promoting biodiversity, revitalizing existing buildings, optimizing cycles, and a willingness to experiment. Around 80 projects will be showcased that exemplarily address the challenges of climate change. Dominating the foyer is the floor-to-ceiling installation "Tree.ONE" by ecoLogicStudio, a synthetic tree grown from microalgae that absorbs CO₂ from the atmosphere and converts it into biomaterial. For the exhibition design, the architecture firm MVRDV has relied almost exclusively on materials already available at the Bundeskunsthalle. This exhibition is an initiative of the Bundeskunsthalle in partnership with the New European Bauhaus and transform.NRW.
