Cello Duello

"Cello Duello" is both a name and a program: a musical competition that cellists Jens Peter Maintz and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt engage in on stage. Despite the combative title, harmonious interplay is at the forefront. The two artists met in 1991 during a masterclass with David Geringas and subsequently formed their duo. Their repertoire includes works by Joseph Haydn, Niccolò Paganini, Carl Maria von Weber, and Jacques Offenbach. Particularly noteworthy is their arrangement of Paganini's "Moses Fantasy," which was originally composed for violin and now resonates in an impressive interpretation for two cellos. The Jakobikirche in Lippstadt, with its historic architecture, provides the ideal setting for this extraordinary concert experience.
