Nienburg Disc Shooting

During the holiday season, the "Pellkartoffelessen" (boiled potato meal) takes place, and the highlight is the grand parade on Monday. The origins of this traditional festival date back to the end of the 13th century. Every year, citizen militias and shooting guilds gathered in the cities of Germany to hold a practice shoot at parrots or birds. By the end of the 16th century, these practice shoots were declared public festivals. A letter from 1654 indicates that the parrot shooting evolved into "Scheibenschießen" (target shooting), with the date always set for the Monday after St. John's Day. Even today, a silver parrot from 1581 hangs on the "Königskette" (king's chain) of the Nienburg target king as the most valuable piece.

Program schedule:
Friday at 5 PM – Festival kickoff with the local districts
Saturday at 5 PM – Devotion, parade through the old town, and taps at 11 PM
Sunday at 2 PM – Children's entertainment/family day at the target square
Monday at 8 AM – Target shooting Monday (parade)
Wednesday – Public award ceremony in front of the town hall, followed by the boiled potato meal in the old town
