Not only this unique find, but also the important natural resources of salt and iron ore for the development of Salzgitter are a legacy of the seas. Iron ore was deposited twice, each time with an interval of 30 million years. The formation of these iron ores and the salt rocks precipitated during the Zechstein period are presented in detail in the exhibition. You can experience geology live by hiking through the Lichtenberge and the Salzgitter ridge. The geopaths lead to the rock layers where the fossilized evidence can still be found even after millions of years. Since 2007, the municipal museum Schloss Salder has also served as an information center in the network of the Geopark Harz.Braunschweiger Land.Ostfalen.
