Those who want to get to know the fascinating birdlife of the Elbmarschen between Stade and Cuxhaven without getting their feet wet or enduring the elements can book a birdwatching tour. Biologists, as local experts, provide entertaining information about the flora and fauna on each trip. The approximately three-hour excursions, which start from the historic harbor town of Freiburg, take you through a landscape designated as a "wetland of international importance." The reason: In autumn and spring, tens of thousands of migratory birds from Scandinavia and Siberia pass through here on their journey toward the Atlantic and back to their breeding grounds.
