According to the novella by Theodor Storm, “...if your dike is to hold, something living must be put into it.” A production that may be even more relevant today than in Theodor Storm's lifetime. Hauke Haien tries to avert the impossible and hold back the waves. However, the clumsiness and superstition of the village stand in his way. But is humanity even capable of calculating nature and foreseeing the consequences of its actions? Communication, superstition, and reason are the themes of this evening. The polarizing dynamics that occupy Hauke Haien and his surroundings can be found in today’s debates about climate change. In "The Rider on the White Horse," the dike symbolically breaks at the intersection of old and new thinking. Yet perhaps it is possible for us today to connect these breaking points. So let us revive "The Rider on the White Horse" using the means of theater and object and puppet theater.
