For almost a millennium, from its founding in 852 until its dissolution in 1810, the Canoness Monastery of Gandersheim shaped the development of our charming town. The impressive Romanesque collegiate church is now one of the most important architectural monuments in Lower Saxony and is an absolute must-see for every visitor. A particular highlight is the magnificent Emperor's Hall in the Baroque wing of the abbey, which was built between 1726 and 1736. With its portraits of numerous abbesses and canonesses, as well as the beautiful wall and ceiling paintings, it offers a fascinating insight into the cultural, spiritual, and political significance of the Imperial Monastery of Gandersheim. Let yourself be enchanted by the history and beauty of this special place!
