By acquiring the cargo bike, the municipality of Westoverledingen, together with the OstfriesenFiets e.V., aims to promote the mobility transition and climate protection. A cargo bike can replace a car for many short trips. Larger purchases can be made, and children can be transported. This not only saves money but also reduces greenhouse gas emissions and fine dust, which burden our environment and health. The cargo bike is equipped with electronic assistance. Secured by three-point belts, two children can sit in the transport box. A rain cover can also be installed. The loan period is a maximum of three weekdays. Over the weekend, the bike can be borrowed from Friday to Tuesday. There is no borrowing or returning on Saturdays, Sundays, as well as on public holidays and bridge days. Since the cargo bike is used to transport children and groceries, the transport of animals is not permitted. The cargo bike even has its own name – "Willm," named after a true original from the Overledingerland, "Wilhelm Brechtezende," also known as "Oll Willm." During his lifetime, Oll Willm made many errands for his fellow citizens by bike. Here’s how it works: Register on the Ostfriesenfiets.de website, log in with your username and password, select the cargo bike "Willm," book the cargo bike in the calendar, and bring the necessary documents (loan/return form and ID) for pickup. Enjoy riding. Return at the station and check the return. Detailed information about the loan can be found on the Ostfriesenfiets.de website under "how it works."
