A Repair Café is not just a repair service, but a place where defective everyday items are repaired together under the guidance of volunteer repairers. Whether it's a flat bicycle tire, a broken blender, or a hole in a favorite sweater – here, things are screwed, soldered, patched, and sewn. The goal is to save items from being thrown away, share knowledge, and promote the independence of visitors. The service is free, but donations – preferably in the form of cakes or cookies – are welcome.
What services are offered? The Repair Café Bad Zwischenahn offers repairs for bicycles, wooden items, clothing, small electrical devices, computers, smartphones, and walkers, depending on the experience of the volunteers. Knife and scissor sharpening is also available. Additionally, there are book and clothing exchange opportunities as well as creative upcycling workshops with changing themes. A café area invites for exchange over coffee and cake. Since the offered repairs can vary depending on the availability of helpers, the exact focus areas are announced on the website before each event.
When and where? The Repair Café Bad Zwischenahn takes place once a month on the first Saturday at the Oberschule Bad Zwischenahn (Schillerstraße 2, 26160 Bad Zwischenahn).
How can I help? Volunteers with craftsmanship skills or specific expertise (e.g., in electronics, PC, or smartphone repairs) are always welcome. But even without repair experience, one can support, for example, in organization, setup, or in the café area. Interested individuals can simply drop by the next Repair Café or get in touch via email. Everyone can participate – whether as a repair professional or as a helper in the background.
Supporters and sponsors: The Repair Café was initiated by Rainer Theuerkauff and is supported by the group W.I.M. as well as the Erwin-Roeske-Stiftung Bad Zwischenahn. Thanks to the cooperation with school principal Dr. Jürgen Boy and the municipality, the facilities of the Oberschule Bad Zwischenahn can be used. Furthermore, the Repair Café is part of the project "Learning Place Repair," which is funded by the Northwest Metropolitan Region and carried out in close collaboration with the University of Oldenburg, the Repair Council, and the Resource Center Oldenburg.
