Through the young Felix Mendelssohn, the genre of overture was developed into a fully-fledged concert work. He composed sophisticated pieces, such as "Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage": based on a poem by Goethe, he created an almost abstract tone painting study on calm and movement. Max Bruch, a great admirer of Mendelssohn, entered the music scene a generation later, yet he retained the romantic gesture that the composers before him had developed. His Violin Concerto from 1866 quickly conquered the repertoire and became so successful that it overshadowed the rest of his work. Robert Schumann's 2nd Symphony is a kaleidoscope full of imagination and musical inventiveness, appearing at times playful, at times serious, and at times melancholic – a virtuoso piece for orchestra!

Program:
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: "Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage"
Max Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26 (Soloist: Kyumin Park, winner of the Joseph Joachim Violin Competition 2024)
INTERMISSION
Robert Schumann: Symphony No. 2 in C major, Op. 61
