Hans Zimmer is one of the most successful composers of our time, with music for over 150 films. The German-American, born in Frankfurt am Main, has been involved in scoring various films alongside Stanley Myers since the early 1980s. His major breakthrough came in 1988 with the film score for Barry Levinson's Rain Man, which earned him his first Oscar nomination; eleven more would follow. In the 1990s, Zimmer particularly impressed with his innovative combination of orchestra and synthesizer, contributing to a new style of action film scoring. In 1994, he composed the music for Disney's The Lion King and won his first Oscar the following year in the Best Original Score category.
