Congas, rhythms of the Caribbean

Latin American rhythms are carried by congas and a variety of other percussion instruments such as claves, bongos, guiro, and cowbell. Their magic awakens the desire to dance and drum in many people. In the class, we focus on the special playing technique for congas called "floating hand" and the interplay of the individual instruments. Afro-Cuban and popular rhythms will be explored, and we will play both in an ensemble and along with recorded music. Instruments are available, and you are welcome to bring your own instruments. Instructor: Bernd Lange has been a freelance musician and music teacher since 2000. He teaches drums, African drumming, cajon, and congas in individual and group lessons, leads school clubs, and conducts training for adults, children, and teenagers, as well as teaching early musical education in kindergartens. As a musician, he plays drums and percussion in several bands ranging from pop/rock to world music/jazz, accompanies choirs, and works on individual projects for live performances and recordings.
