Original miners' traditions in the Ore Mountains - this is how the Freiberg Christmas Market presents itself every year from the Tuesday before the 1st Advent until December 22. During this time, Freiberg's medieval old town shines in a blaze of lights, creating one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany against the backdrop of the historic Upper Market (Obermarkt). It invites visitors to experience mining traditions, browse for Ore Mountain wood art, and enjoy the Advent season in a relaxed and cozy atmosphere. Around 90 lovingly designed wooden huts are decorated in a miner's style and are closely linked to the history of the Silver City. The ‘smelter’, who melted the ore into silver, now serves delicious Ore Mountain mulled wine. The mining pyramid, the Stollen Fest on the 1st Advent, the miners' parade by torchlight followed by a mountain sermon (always on the Saturday before the second Advent), the Miner's Fest with a small mining procession on the 3rd Advent, the ‘Little Mining Workshop’ for children to do handicrafts, and the ringing in of the Freiberg Christmas break bring the mining adventure to life at the Freiberg Christmas Market. Over 250 shops invite you to enjoy a cozy Christmas shopping tour in the festively illuminated streets of the old town. There are shopping Sundays on the 1st and 3rd Advent. The ice rink at Freudenstein Castle, Christmas exhibitions, Bach oratorio in St. Mary's Cathedral, festive concerts, and romantic lantern walks complete the Silver City Advent.
