Permanent exhibitions at the GRASSI Museum of Applied Arts Leipzig

The permanent exhibition of the GRASSI Museum for Applied Arts unfolds over a total of 3,500 m², showcasing crafts and design from antiquity to the present. A focus is placed on the fundamental human need for clothing, jewelry, and the design of one's environment, which spans all centuries. The extensive permanent exhibition consists of three tours:

1. Antiquity to Historicism: Art and Crafts from Antiquity to 1900 - 2,000 objects of art and cultural history from Europe in 30 rooms (Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque/Rococo, Classicism, Biedermeier, Historicism).

2. Asian Art: Influences of East Asian and Islamic Art on Europe - 400 exhibits in three rooms focusing on lacquer art and tea ceremony vessels.

3. Art Nouveau to the Present: Art and Design from the turn of the century to the immediate present - 2,000 objects in over 1 m² with focuses on international Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Functionalism (Bauhaus), and Pop.
