This year, visitors to the Spreewald Sagen Night can expect a musical open-air spectacle featuring stories of well-known Sorbian legendary figures against the impressive natural backdrop of the Bismarck Tower in Burg (Spreewald). Do legends and myths really belong only to the old, long-gone times? In Burg, during the Spreewald Sagen Night, they take on enchanting forms year after year, impressively dressed in music and dance. But... what if the Spreewald no longer existed? What would happen to the fairy tales, legends, and myths rooted here if entrepreneur Dieterich Muks's plan were to succeed? He intends to flatten the Spreewald to build a gigantic factory. With this news, the super-rich Muks crashes the joyful Müschener Harvest Festival. At first, the people think it's a joke, but they quickly learn that the evil plan is deadly serious. Muks not only has the money but also the provincial president of Brandenburg behind him. Accompanied by an armed escort, he extols the virtues of his mega-factory to the people. When the crowd rises up against him, violence erupts. Muks leaves no doubt that he intends to push his plan through with all his might. For the residents of the Spreewald, the situation seems hopeless, were it not for Wanka, who refuses to let her homeland be destroyed. The young woman makes a crazy decision. Bravely, she puts her life on the line to thwart the plans of the cold-hearted Mr. Muks. How she succeeds, what she experiences at the Water Man's court, and why the shy Janek, who has long been secretly in love with her, ultimately becomes Wanka's personal hero, will not be revealed here. Of course, the audience can once again look forward to many legendary figures, including the Snake Queen and Snake King, the Water Woman along with her husband and daughter, as well as old and new songs, colorful activities, great music, and wonderful dances.
