The era of the Dominican monks in Prenzlau is long over. History, art, and culture have taken residence in the monastic walls. Extensively restored in the late 1990s, the sacred building is now one of the best-preserved medieval monastery complexes in northeastern Germany. The cloisters, as well as the refectory, the former dining hall for the monks, the sacristy, and the women's chapel, are special highlights that invite visitors to let their imagination run free and embark on journeys into history. The monastery garden, as a place of relaxation and contemplation, includes a traditional orchard (apple, plum, pear) and a classic four-part crossroad. Here, edible and medicinal herbs (thyme, woodruff, lemon balm, horseradish, chives, sage, garlic, baby's breath, carrots), flowers (carnations, asters, daisies, columbines, daylilies, irises, delphiniums, coreopsis, Christmas roses, marigolds), and berries (currants, blueberries, and wild strawberries) grow.
