He started his career as a singer with the Leipzig orchestra Heinz Müller in 1962, and his first single "Looky, Looky" was released in 1964. He quickly became one of the most famous artists in the GDR, with hits like "Wie ein Stern" and roles in cult films such as "Heißer Sommer." He also achieved success in the West, which was rather uncommon at the time. Frank Schöbel was never just a pop singer. Whether as a radio host with "Franks Beatkiste," at the opening of the 1974 World Cup, or with the children's record "Komm wir malen eine Sonne," he was always versatile and close to his audience. His Christmas album "Weihnachten in Familie" became the best-selling record in the GDR. In the 1980s, he took a stand, for example with the song "Wir brauchen keine Lügen mehr" shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Even after reunification, he remained active: new albums, tours, television appearances, books, awards – and loyal fans across generations. With his warm charisma, authenticity, and love for music, Frank Schöbel continues to inspire to this day. For more information: Information about the cultural weaving.
