It is court day in the idyllic village of Huisum, and Councilor Walter has announced his arrival. Judge Adam has gotten out of bed on the wrong side, his head wound is hurting terribly, and he cannot find his wig. Marthe Rull raises serious accusations: An unknown man visited her daughter Eve in her room during the night. In his escape, he destroyed her beloved jug. Ruprecht, Eve's fiancé, is accused of the crime. He vehemently denies it, while Eve is being blackmailed into silence by the true perpetrator, Adam. The village judge opens the trial and tries by all means to find a culprit. The truth is denied, hidden, and twisted for as long as possible. And society plays along hypocritically.
