The well-traveled photography team "Jules Verne," led by Berlin photographer Roland Marske, agrees: Japan is even more unique (if that were grammatically possible) than other countries, and anyone embarking on their first trip to Japan—whether by plane or in a lecture hall—should prepare for a completely different travel experience. Japan is a realm of riddles between exoticism and electronics, a dynamic industrial nation, and at the same time a bastion of well-maintained tradition. Alongside the Japan of reinforced concrete, there still exists the Japan of wooden huts with paper windows and tatami mats, while bustling, modern cities with throngs of people contrast with the charm of ancient temples and shrines, serene gardens, and wild, romantic landscapes. Much of what appears "Western" in Japan is, at its core, as unfathomable as one imagines Asia to be. And that is precisely what makes Japan so different and such a rewarding destination for travelers. Speaker: Roland Marske Further information: About the event About URANIA Potsdam
