The Reister Market in Eslohe-Reiste has been combining historical tradition with contemporary flair for over 960 years. Originally known as the "Landding zu Reiste," it once served as a central meeting place that attracted merchants and laid the foundation for today's market. Today, the Reister Market presents itself as a multifaceted folk festival, featuring a mix of fairground attractions, a flea market, and an animal show. The fair offers a variety of rides, including the 40-meter-high chain flyer "BigBen Tower" and the classic bumper cars "Isken No.1." For younger visitors, there is a children's carousel and a kiddie roller coaster. The flea market stretches over one and a half kilometers and includes around 110 stalls offering a wide range of products, from household goods and crafts to clothing and toys. A special highlight is the animal show, where over 150 animals, including cows, horses, rabbits, and sheep, are presented and awarded prizes. This event attracts up to 30,000 visitors annually and underscores the significance of the Reister Market as a cultural event in the Hochsauerlandkreis. Another highlight is the visit from Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who pays his respects to the Reister Market. His presence emphasizes the importance of the market and honors the volunteer efforts of the organizers. Thus, the Reister Market is not only a celebration of tradition but also a vibrant example of community engagement.
