August Macke & Friends – Voices on the Collection

The special exhibition "August Macke & Friends – Voices on the Collection" at the August Macke House Museum in Bonn will present a selection of around 70 works from its own collection starting in autumn 2025. This collection includes over 4,000 works by 65 artists, including paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and crafts by personalities such as Max Beckmann, Fifi Kreutzer, Gabriele Münter, Paul Adolf Seehaus, Hans Thuar, and Marta Worringer. The exhibition highlights the artistic environment of the Rhineland Expressionism and emphasizes August Macke's role as a central networker who brought together numerous fellow artists, gallery owners, and collectors. His residential and studio house in Bonn, now the museum, served as a meeting point for prominent figures in the international art scene, such as Robert Delaunay, Gabriele Münter, and Max Ernst. A special feature of the exhibition is the integration of voices from the Bonn community, public life, and the museum environment, which add personal perspectives to the works. Visitors are invited to contribute their own statements, allowing for a rediscovery of the collection from diverse viewpoints. The exhibition will be complemented by a varied supporting program, including public tours, workshops, and discussion series. A highlight is the new dialogue format "Express yourself!", which provides space for comments and spontaneous thoughts on the exhibited works.
