Public winding of the astronomical clock

With 1,756 individual parts, a total of 20 readings, a monumental case made of mahogany measuring 2.50 meters by 1.50 meters, and a construction time of 33 years, this clock is truly something special in every respect. This year, the clock will celebrate its 100th anniversary. After several months of restoration, the clock will be publicly wound for the first time again on Thursday, September 11, 2025. At 11:00 AM, the head of collections, master clockmaker Jürgen Franke, invites all visitors to this event. In addition to a look inside the normally locked clock case, visitors will learn a lot of interesting information about the history and the unique features of this exceptional clock. Participation in the event is free of charge, and no registration is required. The meeting point is in the foyer of the clock museum.
