The Bundeskunsthalle will present the exhibition "Peter Hujar: Eyes Open in the Dark" starting on February 27, 2026. This retrospective honors the work of the American photographer Peter Hujar (1934–1987), who is known for the empathy and warmth of his images. Hujar's focus was on portrait photography; he documented himself, his friends, and the queer scene in New York's downtown during the 1970s and 1980s. Additionally, he dedicated himself to capturing images of animals, architecture, and landscapes. The exhibition offers a comprehensive insight into Hujar's oeuvre and invites visitors to experience the emotional depth of his photographs.
