Flax or linen is an ancient crop that was grown in Lusatia not only for the famous linseed oil. Linen fabric was an important product, often made at home, until the early 20th century. During two themed days dedicated to flax and linen, the Open-Air Museum Lehde focuses on the cultivation and further processing of this versatile plant. The museum team not only demonstrates how flax is traditionally threshed, but also the subsequent processing from the "breaking" of the stems to "scutching" and "hackling," until ultimately a thread is produced at the spinning wheel.
