ANDY IRVINE is one of the most influential driving forces of the modern Irish folk scene and has made a significant name for himself as a bouzouki, mandolin, and mandola player. He is one of the great Irish singers, and his voice reflects the soul of Ireland. He is a founding member of the legendary Irish groups Sweeney’s Men and PLANXTY and has significantly influenced their style. He is regarded as an imaginative arranger who knows how to present traditional material in new, fresh ways, and he is an excellent composer. His bouzouki and mandolin also incorporate Bulgarian rhythms and Romanian time signatures, glancing towards Macedonia and Albania, and complement his gentle, refined singing with swift changes that never lose the Irish diction.
