"Dream Factory. 100 Years of Film in Babelsberg"

Studio Babelsberg celebrated its 110th anniversary in 2022. More than 3,000 feature films were produced there by Bioscop, Ufa, DEFA, and at Studio Babelsberg itself. The film factory has always been a manufactory of dreams. It produced films under five different political systems, from the Imperial era through the Weimar Republic, the Nazi period, the GDR, and into globalization. The permanent exhibition "Dream Factory: 100 Years of Film in Babelsberg" tells the story of the filmmaking process from the initial idea to distribution. Once a producer is found, the casting, costume design, makeup, and set design begin their work. After filming, editing and sound design follow. When the audience celebrates and the film becomes a success in cinemas, on TV, or on streaming platforms, it wins awards. Visitors can discover valuable original exhibits and interactively try their hand at casting, editing a film, singing with Zarah Leander, or rehearsing with the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg.
