Kurt Tucholsky - A Restless Man

The writer Kurt Tucholsky (1890-1935) was a well-known and feared satirist who caused a stir even during the Kaiser era. In the Weimar Republic, he was politically active alongside his feuilletons and cabaret songs, notably in the magazine "Die Weltbühne," which became legendary partly due to him. As a committed leftist and Jew, he left Germany before 1933 with the rise of the National Socialists and died in exile in Sweden. The actress Andrea Held, known from our production "Three East German Women Get Drunk and Found the Ideal State," connects moments from Tucholsky's life with his best texts and songs in her current program, thus celebrating one of the most important authors and critical intellectuals of the 20th century. The evening will be hosted by dramaturg, author, and film scholar Frank-Burkhard Habel, who has been the chairman of the Kurt Tucholsky Society for several years.
