The journey into the everyday life of a vanished country continues. This time, cameraman Michael Schmidt opens the window to a time that is long gone – yet feels familiar – with fine humor and a loving gaze. His films tell the story of the last year of East Germany, the horse market in Havelberg, the shine and glitter in the Palace of the Republic, and the quiet moments of farewell. We see the currency exchange at Zoo Station, the last FDGB vacation, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the withdrawal of Soviet troops. In between: people, songs, memories – and the first cautious step into capitalism. An evening at the cinema filled with moving images, surprising stories, and winking nostalgia – a reunion with the East, as only Michael Schmidt can show it.
