Freiherr-vom-Stein-Straße / Portastraße, 32457 Porta Westfalica

The exhibition "No Light at the End of the Tunnel" in Porta Westfalica sheds light on the history of the three subcamps of the Neuengamme concentration camp that existed in the region in 1944 and 1945. Around 3,000 prisoners were forced into forced labor for the Nazi war economy at that time, particularly in the tunnel facilities around the Weser breakthrough. Since March 2024, the container exhibition at Dr. Jørgen Kieler Square in Barkhausen offers comprehensive insights into the interplay of Nazi ideology and war economy in this East Westphalian community. The focus is on the individual stories of the prisoners from the concentration camp subcamps. The outdoor area of the exhibition is accessible year-round, 24 hours a day. The container area can be visited on weekends and by appointment. Volunteer staff from the KZ Memorial and Documentation Center Porta Westfalica are available during these times for questions and to provide information about the work of the memorial initiative.
