The exhibition "Re:frame Sudan" at St. Sixtus Church in Haltern am See highlights the role of Sudanese women during the revolution of 2018/19. Photographer Helena Lea Manhartsberger presents portraits of women from different generations and backgrounds, reconstructing key moments of the revolution and sharing stories of oppression, liberation, frustration, and hope. For example, Salma Awad, a professional football player and the first bicycle courier in Sudan, recounts how she delivered medicine to those in need during the war, crossing front lines multiple times until she had to flee herself. Tea seller Hiliwah speaks of regular harassment by the police, who did not accept her "revolutionary" work on the street. During the uprising, she, along with others, ensured that everyone had enough to eat and drink. The exhibition will be opened on November 23 at 10:00 AM during the service at St. Sixtus Church and will be on display until March 22, 2026.
