The Annentag in Brakel, one of the most traditional fair events in North Rhine-Westphalia, has been combining religious devotion with secular festivities for centuries. Every year on the first weekend of August, showmen and itinerant vendors transform the historic old town into a lively bazaar. On Sunday, a solemn procession to the baroque Anne Chapel honors Saint Anne, accompanied by hundreds of believers. Monday is dedicated to the traditional cattle and flea market, where deals are sealed with a handshake. A magnificent fireworks display on Monday evening marks the grand finale of the Annentag.
