Guided tour through the central mill

The Mittelmühle in Büren, built in the early 16th century, is one of the oldest secular buildings in the region. Originally designed as a grain mill, it was later repurposed as a mineral mill to produce stone flour for the paint industry. Opposite it is the drilling mill, where since the 17th century tree trunks have been processed into wooden water pipes that served the city's water supply. After extensive restoration work in 2009, both mills now present themselves as vibrant museums. Regular guided tours offer detailed insights into the historical technology and the operation of the mills. Visitors can explore the original mill equipment and experience the functioning of the reconstructed drilling machine. These tours not only convey technical knowledge but also provide a vivid picture of the miller's craft from past centuries.
