Claudio Monteverdi's "Vespers of the Blessed Virgin" (Vespro della Beata Vergine) from 1610 is considered a milestone in sacred music, combining traditional compositional techniques with the innovative elements of its time. The work includes an Invitatory, five Psalms, a Hymn, and a Magnificat, complemented by four Concerti that stand out for their expressive interpretation of the text. Some musicologists interpret these Concerti as a musical representation of the salvific significance of Mary, from her selection to her eschatological role. The "Vespers" is characterized by the combination of melody, polyphony, monody, rhythm, and the targeted use of instruments. The performance as part of the Haller Bach Days promises an outstanding musical experience. Under the direction of Friedemann Engelbert, renowned soloists such as Ute Engelke and Friederike Webel (soprano), Beat Duddeck (alto), Christian Rathgeber and Florian Feth (tenor), as well as Julian Redlin (bass), will present this significant work together with the vocal ensemble of the Johanneskantorei and the Johann-Rosenmüller Ensemble. The St. Johanniskirche in Halle (Westf.) provides the perfect setting for this event. Registration is required to attend the concert. The event begins at 6:45 PM.
