The Hermannlauf, a traditional long-distance race, spans 31.1 kilometers from Detmold to Bielefeld and takes participants through the picturesque hills of the Teutoburg Forest. The start takes place in close proximity to the Hermann Monument, a well-known landmark. The route ends at the historic Sparrenburg in Bielefeld. Participants can use a bus transfer from Bielefeld or the shuttle service from the train station in Detmold to the start. The division into starting groups is based on performances from the last two Hermannläufe or comparable achievements. For hikers, a gross time measurement is taken. The Hermannlauf offers a challenging experience in a scenic setting.
